The works titled “New Spliff” make part of an art research project dealing with memory of men who have been engaged in intimate and romantic companionship with other men in recent history and different social circumstances. By means of new visual materials, the cycle reinterprets the collected oral history about a meeting point, or a wild beach that no longer exists because it was turned into a berth for cruiser. By attempting to find an image for memory, the research questions (im)possibility to create visual documents as memory holders and in doing so, it relies on the archive techniques that Derrida, recalling Freud, defines as repetition and/or reinterpretation. “A Sketch for a Vacation” focuses on the problem of vacation from the perspective of a precarious worker and time for leisure as the place of freedom and emancipation. It departs from Marxist and feminist criticism of capitalism as defined by Kathi Weeks in her book “The Problem with Work”. The impossibility to actually realize the annual leave manifests in the creation of memory on vacation and leisure time in the form of photographs of guests who visit the city on their vacation. The work that thematises cleaning of a houseplant supplements thinking about free time in video format.
